Greater Ankle Laxity and Smaller Evertor Muscles in Conjunction are Linked to Symptoms of Chronic Ankle Instability in Collegiate Basketball Athletes.
A study of collegiate basketball players found that the combination of elevated ankle laxity and reduced evertor muscle size was associated with symptomatic chronic ankle instability (CAI), whereas neither factor alone predicted symptoms. These findings suggest that both mechanical and muscular deficits must coexist to produce CAI symptoms, which may help clinicians identify at-risk athletes. Physical therapists working with basketball players could use these findings to guide targeted strengthening and stability assessments.
