Thoracic kyphosis is associated with somatosensory dependence and postural control in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

PubMed / PLoS One · 2026-10-23 · By Jiang W, Zhu N, Zhang P, et al. · PloS one

A study published in PLoS One found that thoracic kyphosis magnitude is linked to both somatosensory reliance and postural control ability in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. Greater thoracic kyphosis was associated with increased dependence on somatosensory input for balance regulation. These findings may have implications for how physical therapists assess and address postural stability in this patient population.
